The Community Association of Port-a-Piment (Southern Department of Haiti) was born of the shock caused by the devastating earthquake of January 12, 2010. Many people, inhabitants of the area or displaced, have decided to combine their energy to build a collective structure to respond to this disaster.

The objective of this structure is to help the victims of the earthquake and organize a community life with the newly displaced, in a local development perspective to curb the causes of the rural emigration. This association aims to stimulate and coordinate projects from interested parties, while constituting as a reliable partner for organisations and funders.

The ACPP is developing a partnership with the French association "Ann aji ak AYITI - acting with Haiti" and features collaborations with organizations interested in supporting this collective initiative.

The ACPP proposes to work on a wide area: agriculture, health, housing, environment, infrastructure, crafts, culture and education. However, given the urgency, a first project has been retained: the establishment of an agricultural cooperative to boost agricultural work, to propose an activity to the many displaced and promote food self-sufficiency and local trade in medium term. Since this is a propitious time for planting, this project is oriented, initially, to finance seeds and agricultural tools to facilitate farmers’ work and end their short term needs.
